As a Knight might do...

Salafi jihadism is a movement that believes in taking the world back to the time of Muhammad - quite literally - to a time when Allah lived and all laws and governance are predetermined by Allah. Sharia law rules and there is no place for politics, government or  the things we take for granted in the Twenty First Century. Women are subservient to man, sold in markets for pleasure and slavery, whilst non  believers are a mere cockroach to be stamped on and obliterated. Threat Level One is a fictional novel surrounding the objectives of the global Salafi Movement. It is the story of the nation's threat level - those who make it and those who break it....This is the introduction to my thriller 'Threat Level One' available in print (CLICK HERE) and in kindle (CLICK HERE)

In medieval times, when a country or monarchy was at the greatest threat from its enemies, a King or Queen would grant someone the honorary title of Knight for service to that Monarch or country. This was usually granted following a courageous military action by the leader of an army or a brave individual encounter with the enemy.  A Knighthood was considered a class of lower nobility and gradually became associated with ideals of chivalry and a code of conduct for a truly Christian warrior. Consequently, the landed gentry trusted their Knights who were skilled in battle.
In the twenty-first century warriors are still found in our military, police and intelligence services where modern warfare is much more complex than ever before. The title of Knight, however, remains and is purely honorific. It is usually bestowed by a monarch, as in the British honours system, often for non-military service to the country. The female equivalent is Dame. The prevailing concept of a Knight endures as an elite warrior sworn to uphold the values of faith, loyalty, courage, and honour that anchor a peaceful democracy. A nation under threat might expect people, such as this, to stand up and fight when threatened by its enemies
But will such people oppose the enemy in the way their forebears did - without question, deprived of funding, starved of meaningful government patronage, and devoid of the co-operation, sponsorship and support of the community in which they live?
Accordingly, the destruction of a peaceful democracy will not come from those who attack it by the path of evil. Peace will be destroyed by those who only sit and watch, fail to uncover wickedness, neglect their warriors, abandon their comrades, and lack the courage to stand up and crusade against the wrongdoers - as a Knight might do…
